What is Acrylic Printing?
Acrylic printing, also known as acrylic face mounting or pleximounts, is a beautiful and stylish way to display your favorite pictures. This hand-making multi-step process produces prints that no machine can produce. The acrylic prints bring your images to life with superb quality and vibrancy with brilliant colors and dark blacks. Our acrylic printer provide various available prints in custom sizes and many style choices.
There Are Two Options For Printing Acrylic Photos
Both options involve placing an image under a sheet of acrylic, which protects it from harmful elements such as humidity and dirt.
Acrylic Photo Mounting
This acrylic printing technique involves creating a photo on glossy or metallic photo paper and mounting it under plexiglass.
Prints Giclee Shop provides acrylic prints on Lexjet Metallic and Epson Premium Glossy papers. Due to their superior smooth finish and high gloss, these two papers are an excellent choice for acrylic mounted photos.
Printing Directly on Acrylic
Unlike acrylic photo mounting, printing directly on acrylic fuses the ink to the surface with UV curing technology.
Direct acrylic prints do not use paper, and as a result, your picture can be placed in covered outdoor areas.
Acrylic Print Surfaces
We offer a variety of acrylic surface finishes.
A Bit About Acrylic Thickness
When printing on acrylic, what thickness do you recommend?
Acrylic thickness is a question that comes up frequently among our clients, especially when considering the final size of a print.
Here is what you need to know:
Side Finish Choices
We offer two side finish options.
Smooth Edges
Smooth edges give a frosted finish to the sides. This finish is standard for prints on 1/8” thick plexiglass.
Polished Edges
Polished edges give a clear view all around the image. It is recommended for prints on 1/4” thick plexiglass. Polished Edges are standard for Acrylic Blocks.
Backing & Sub-Frame
We believe that the back of your acrylic print is as important as the front. Therefore, we use Dibond aluminum, or Sintra PVC as the backing support. Additionally, we attach an aluminum sub-frame for wall mounting and added stability.
Dibond is a highly durable material made of two aluminum layers and a black resin core. The resulting product is exceptionally flat, lightweight, and sturdy. Dibond also helps prevent your image from bending over time. This benefit is critical, especially for larger print sizes.
Sintra is a lightweight yet rigid board made from PVC plastic. This backing option is an economical alternative to Dibond. Our Direct Acrylic Prints will come with your choice of white or black Sintra.
The aluminum sub-frame adds stability and ease of mounting. We provide all the hardware needed to mount your print. All you need is a level and a hammer. The sub-frame is 3/4” thick, making your image look as if it is magically floating on the wall.
Long-Lasting Quality
Acrylic printing has existed for quite some time.
Most people believe that using acrylic mounting is a new technique. In fact, the use of plexiglass for mounting photos dates back to 1969.
At the time, Heinz Sovilla-Brulhart invented a process to bond a print under acrylic with a liquid gel. As a result, plexiglass has been used by artists and photographers to present their works for many years. Furthermore, the acrylic technique is recognized and sought after by serious art collectors and museums all over the world.
Most of the acrylic prints produced today use a similar process. The only difference being the glue is not in gel form. Instead, it comes in rolls between sheets of protective plastic. Compared to Mr. Sovilla-Brulhart’s technique, this new process holds the same archival properties.
Caring For Your Acrylic Prints
Glossy Acrylic Prints will need an occasional light dusting. This is easily accomplished by using our cleaning fluid and microfiber cleaning kit.
Alternatively, you can purchase a similar cleaning solution from Novus plastic polish. Do not use Windex or paper towels.
Non-Glare Acrylic can be cleaned with any ammonia-free plastic cleaner. Use a microfiber cleaning cloth. Do not use Windex or paper towels.
TruLife Museum Acrylic has a special scratch resistant surface. You can clean it with a paper towel or microfiber cloth and an ammonia-free glass cleaning solution.
Our Acrylic Printing Services
The words "Acrylic" and "Plexiglass" are often used to describe an Acrylic Print, but do these words refer to two different things? The short answer is yes, and no. Plexiglass (Plexiglas®) is a brand name, and Acrylic is a material that Plexiglass is made from. Now, the Plexiglas® brand makes a better quality acrylic because of the way it's fabricated.
Understanding what is available and choosing premium materials is very important when it comes to acrylic printing. With this in mind, our acrylic printing services offer many options to accommodate the needs and concerns expressed by our customers.
Specifically, our acrylic photos are available in a variety of finishes, thicknesses, and mounting options. Photos and digital images greatly benefit from this technique, gaining dimension and luminosity with this durable and ready-to-hang presentation.
