I have had the opportunity to be involved in a few grass root efforts by artists to bring awareness and enrich communities through the arts.  Back in 2001 my wife and I were part of the 6th Street Art Collective in Little Havana.  We got together with other artists such as Carlos Suarez de Jesus and Vivian Marthell from Lab6, Adalberto Delgado from 6g Studio and Carlos Alves.  Joining forces allowed us to put together very successful exhibitions in our own alternative art spaces.  We even put together an alternative art fair called Babalu Aye, A Post Modern Tribute to Babalu Aye and the brain child of Carlos Suares de Jesus and Vivian Marthell.  We opened the first Babalu Aye Fair on December 17th, the very first year Art Basel  came to town and before all the mini fairs that have been sprouting all over town in December.

 

It has now been quite a few years since the Little Havana days, which by the way was the beginning of the now well known 8th Street Art Walk on the last Friday of every month.  I have now been involved as a fine art printer for quite a while, working with many different kinds of artists from all over the United States, the Carebbean and Europe.  I recently had the opportunity to partner with friend and fellow artist Mike Arnspiger to move into a much larger facility with over 2400 square feet of open space.  We always talked about having a big enough space to exhibit our own work as well as the work of other artists.  We have been in our new space for about a year now and have been able to put together some very interesting and successful exhibitions.  We are part of the Falls Arts District, located south on US1 between 129 ST to 134 ST and Galloway (87th Avenue).  Together all studios and galleries open to the public 4 times a year to present their artists’ latest works.  Here at Prints Giclee Shop Artspace we also have openings the rest of the year.  For our call to artists we have had over 300 guests in our space, and artists from all over the world have participated please go to www.calltoartistsnow.com for more information and current artist calls.

 

In the very near future we will also be offering artists seminars at our space.  We are planning to offer all kinds of very helpful information and demonstrations to artists and art enthusiasts.  Some of the topics we are planning are: creating artists portfolios, photoshop for artists, how to market your work, advantages of  prints giclee for artists, etc.
